Angles, succeedents, cadents　始宮、續宮、果宮

始、續、果宮是古典占星最基礎，但也常被混淆的概念。Cecily老師所翻戴克博士的《當代古典星研究》Traditional Astrology for Today中，針對始、續、果宮有以下的定義：

始宮(angles)、續宮(succeedents)、果宮(cadents)，將宮位區分為三種類別，以此判斷行星在這些類別中呈現力量與直接表現的能力，始宮為第1、10、7、4宮，續宮為第2、11、8、5，果宮為第12、9、6、3宮。

但是實際的宮位位置必須先確認所使用的宮位制：是以整個星座宮位制、或是象限宮位制來判斷，特別當古典文獻提到始宮或軸心(pivot，希臘文 kentron，阿拉伯文 watad)的意義，是指

（1）整個星座宮位制的上升星座（以及其它尖軸星座），或是

（2）ASC-MC兩軸線的所在度數，或是

（3）以尖軸度數所計算的象限宮位制之始宮位置。

從學習的層面來思考，Angles英文原意有角度、角落之意，我們可以想像天幕就像是一個大帳篷，必須要有四個樁（Stakes）將這帳篷固定，四個樁也就形成了四個角落（Angles ）。同樣地，Angles也被稱為四尖軸（pivot），因為這四個角落也是固定天幕的軸心。

換句話說，當在古籍看到Angles、Stakes、Pivots這三個字，都代表著同個意義。

Succeedent英文的原意為接續的，接下來的，一般當做形容詞使用。在古典占星中，我們將之翻為續宮，表示其力量及表現的能力接續始宮的。然而，當行星來到了續宮，力量有所減弱，因此力量或表現力不如始宮來得強而有力。

Cadent的英文有下跌、下降的意思。顧名思義，當行星來到這個宮位，就好像跌倒了或力氣用盡了，是虛弱無力的。之所以翻譯成果宮，是因為就象限宮位制而言，它是一個象限中最後的宮位，類比結束、結果之意。因此，與始宮與續宮相比，我們可以想像它的力量及活躍度是最低的，行星的表現常被忽略甚至被抺煞。

以下為幾個古代文獻中運用到始、續、果宮的例子：

And if you found a planet in an angle, and it is the lord of the exaltation of the Ascendant, infer from that one, if you found the lord of the Ascendant separated; any planet which was in an angle, having power there, will likewise be a significator.

若有行星位於始宮，又為上升的旺宮主星，但上升廟主星卻不在始宮，則位於始宮的行星為征象星。任何位於始宮的行星若有尊貴力量，即可成為征象星。（摘自戴克博士《世界占星學Ｉ》Astrology of the World I所收錄，烏瑪·塔巴里 (‘Umar al-Tabarī）的《卜卦之書》Book of Questions第八十六章論買賣的內容。
