最強主星Almuten為拉丁文，乃翻譯自阿拉伯文的mubtazz。與最強主星表達相同概念，但較容易理解的單字為Victor，一般翻為勝利星，為比賽、選舉等有競爭性的場合勝出的贏家。轉換到占星的理解上，勝利星則代表以某些程式比較所有行星／敏感點的尊貴力量，從中勝出的行星或敏感點。

戴克博士在其著作中對勝利星有以下定義：

特定事項、宮位或整張星盤中最有掌管力的行星或敏感點。但是，尋找特定宮位的勝利星（宮位元勝利星）所需要的程式，與為符合某些標準，而在不同宮位中找出的勝利星（星盤勝利星）的程式是不同的。

由以上定義來看，勝利星的計算程式可能依主題、宮位元有所不同，如同不同的競賽中，評分標準也不盡相同。另外勝利星也不一定就是行星，有可能是某個特殊點或敏感點（例如幸運點及出生前的新月或滿月）。

以下為古代文獻談到勝利星的範例：

Which if [the victors] were bad ones, they will signify the hindrance and corruption of kings and the wealthy; and if they were fortunes, they will signify the good fortune and fitness of the being of things.

若勝利星為凶星，代表國王或貴族將遭遇困難或腐敗；若為吉星，則事事順利。

And if Mars was strong and he had the role [of victor] in the year, it indicates the victory and strength and conspicuousness of the people of that clime over those who are close to them (among the people of the seven climes).

若火星強旺並為勝利星，火星代表區域裡的人民將比其它區域（七個氣候區中）來得更有力量並容易取得勝利。
