實際上若撇開本輪與偏心勻速點的概念,均輪簡單來講就是行星繞著地球運行的軌道。而行星在軌道時所產生的所有視運動,包括順行、逆行、停滯、離地球的遠近等等,都有其對應的占星法則。例如戴克博士在《選擇與開始》的緒論中提及,論(擇時的)應期有三個方面,第一是改變的應期(Changes in times),第二是時間長度(Lengths of time),第三為制約條件(Conditioning elements)。而改變的應期包括:
Changes in the planet’s relation to the quarters of the epicycle or the deferent. For instance, if a planet reached its apogee and then moved beyond it, it would be a change.
And if Jupiter was transiting above Saturn in the sector, a man who commands justice will rise up against the king.

This refers to a medieval theory of transits… Given two planets, the one which is proportionately closer to its apogee (of the deferent or the epicycle) is transiting “above” the other.
