英國劍橋字典中對Apogee這個字的定義為：“the most successful, popular, or powerful point”即（成功、流行、權力等的）頂峰，頂點，最高點。

例如：

At their apogee, the novels of Spillane claimed worldwide sales of over $180 million.

在史畢蘭的小說最為風靡之時，其全球銷售量超過1.8億冊。

但在天文學中，Apogee是指月亮、行星或人造衛星軌道上離地球最遠的點。戴克博士在其古典占星詞彙表中的定義為：“以地球的觀點來看，為行星在軌道運行時離地球最遠的點，並投射在黃道上的度數”。

在實際運用上，若行星來到遠地點，通常是能量最高漲之時，一般而言對主管事項有利；若從遠地點下降，相對代表行星力量漸趨於弱勢，不利於其主管的事項。

伊朗尼（al-‘Imrānī）在抉擇之書（The Book of Choices）中論及第九宮的道德與教育事項時，有以下敘述：

And let Mercury be of a good condition, made fortunate and strong. We even praise it that Mercury be aspecting the lord of the Ascendant, nor should the Moon be diminishing [her] course, nor descending from the apogee.

此外須使水星處於良好狀態，呈現吉象且強力。我們亦讚賞水星與上升主星形成相位，而月亮不宜縮減[她的]進程，也不宜自遠地點下降。

以下範例則與價格有關：

And so, with it decreasing from the apogee (or rather, the orbit), that which is left over from the sixth up to the seventh, is mediocre; but from the seventh to the twelfth, and from one up to the third, the worst.

若行星從遠地點下降（從其運行的軌道），由第六宮來到第七宮，代表價格持平，若從第七宮到第十二宮，或從第一宮到第三宮，代表價格下跌。
